So this is the first blog I've ever written, I'm filled with a little anticipatory anxiety as to how it will be received but also I have an underlying feeling that there could be a writer trapped inside of me, waiting to escape!
Im starting a new journey, an exciting one, but one that is also the end of another journey Ive been on. I decided at a late age for my current industry, the ripe old age of 28 that I would like to go to university, so off I went, and again, and again until in 2009 I graduated from the University of Liverpool with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Ive always had a need to support others but this way I was able to do it professionally and make a real difference, or so I thought at the time.
Over the last 12 years I have experienced NHS settings and independent health care providers, working for those who I always deemed braver than I as an associate psychologist, and more recently as part of a community interest company. All of these experiences have been unique, enjoyable at times and difficult at other times. They gave me the opportunity to do the job I love and make a difference to the children, young people and adults I have worked with.
I've come to realise over these years that its the therapeutic relationship that contributes as much as the evidence-based therapies to the difference that can be made to people's lives. My qualifications allow me to be in a position of being able to listen to people's stories, of the journey's they have been on, the challenges and difficulties that they experiece and to offer a listening ear and collaborative guidance to alleviate some of their psychological distress. So this is where my next my journey begins only this time I've gone it alone.
