Combined ADHD and autism: assessments, testing and diagnosis
What does an ADHD and autism combined assessment involve?
At Cross Psychology, our assessments for combined ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) - sometimes called AuDHD - are designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of your strengths, challenges and support needs. The process follows a structured pathway while ensuring that every assessment remains tailored to you.
Step 1: Initial consultation
The process begins with a free discovery call. This provides an opportunity to discuss your concerns, ask questions about the assessment process and decide whether a combined assessment is the most appropriate option for you or your child.
Step 2: Initial screening
Before a full assessment takes place, screening questionnaires are completed to gather information about your current experiences and developmental history. If both ADHD and autism traits are identified, a combined assessment pathway may be recommended.
Step 3: Comprehensive clinical assessment
The assessment itself takes place at our welcoming clinic in Alrewas and is conducted by experienced and appropriately qualified members of our multidisciplinary team.
Depending on your age and needs, the assessment may include:
-
Clinical interviews
-
Developmental history gathering
-
Standardised assessment tools
-
Behavioural observation
-
Information from parents, family members, schools or other relevant professionals
Our aim is not simply to identify whether diagnostic criteria are met, but to develop a full understanding of how you experience the world.
Step 4: Feedback and discussion
Following the assessment, the findings are reviewed by the team and discussed with you. Initial feedback is typically provided within 48 hours, giving greater clarity and understanding without unnecessary delays.
Step 5: Comprehensive report and recommendations
A detailed written report is produced, outlining the assessment findings, diagnostic outcome and personalised recommendations.
Where appropriate, recommendations may include:
-
Educational support strategies
-
Workplace recommendations
-
Further therapeutic support
-
Signposting to additional services
-
Post-diagnostic support options

Ongoing support after diagnosis
For many people, diagnosis is only the beginning of the journey. Dr Zoe Cross and her team at Cross Psychology provides access to ongoing support services and works alongside a wider multidisciplinary network, including psychiatrists and prescribing pharmacists. This ensures that you can access appropriate support following assessment.
